Christmas time and a Blessing

Christmas time is always one of my favorite times of the year.  Everything is decorated and people are happy (except for while Christmas shopping but that's a whole different story...)  Anyway, this year, Kam's company had a gingerbread house contest.  They usually have good prizes so we wanted to participate.  They gave a kit and a set of rules and we started brainstorming.  Now, neither of us are extremely creative so we thought a castle would be a good idea.  Then, we decided it would be fun to do an UP house.  The kit had the house prebuilt so I made more gingerbread to convert it but we couldn't figure out how to do it.  So, back to the drawing board.  Sadly, we'd already broken off the extra porch roof that was in the way so we had a lovely hole.  Hmmm, back to the internet for ideas.  Oh, a church with stained glass windows, that would be cool!  Yeah, that didn't work out either...  So, what did we do?
That's right, a condemned gingerbread house!!!

I must admit is was fun putting holes in it :)

I kept stealing the candies to leave marks where they had been.

   Boarded up window.

Isn't it lovely?  We had a good time destroying it!  Sadly, we didn't win a prize (I swear there were professionals with some of the other entries) but we thought it was pretty funny!  Besides that, the company gave ALL of the employees iPads so who needs a board game prize anyway?!?!?

It's Grant's first Christmas, and although he doesn't care yet, I made sure he helped decorate the tree.  I have also been enjoying finding things to give him.  His daddy thinks I'm silly because all the boy needs is diapers and clothes :)  I've got to start traditions now, though, right?  So, here's my little guy helping decorate the tree.

Doesn't he look excited?

Yesterday we blessed him at church.  It was so neat to be the proud mom for the first time while your baby's up front being blessed.  I found a cute little suit for him and he was charming.  It was a good day and I was glad so much of our families could be there.  Of course there were some who couldn't make it, and they were missed.  What a special day!

 Showing off his duds!

Our little family.

That evening, we went to see the lights on Temple Square.  It had been a while since I'd seen them and of course, Grant had never seen them.  We bundled him up and finally braved the first long outside excursion.  I thought Grant would enjoy it since he's always staring at the lights at home.  This is what he thought of it.

Far too much excitement for one day.  I think we tired the poor boy out!

Well, that's what's been happening here.  What an exciting month so far!  I hope you all are enjoying this time of year as well.

Merry Christmas!!!
